Texas Commissioner of Higher Education to Present Keynote Address at
Service Learning and Civic Engagement Educators Fall Retreat for Renewal

AUSTIN, TX – Texas Campus Compact (The Compact) announces open registration for their fall Service Learning and Civic Engagement Educators Retreat for Renewal. College faculty and administrators, social workers, licensed professional counselors, non-profit agencies and the general public are invited to attend this thought-provoking and awareness-raising event celebrating service learning and civic engagement through panel discussions, plenary sessions, and stimulating debates, to be held on October 24 and 25, 2008 in Austin, TX.

Attendees have the chance to hear from experts on topics such as The Moral Leadership of High Education, Reflections on Public Engagement: Informing & Transforming Our Communities and the People We Serve, and Ethics in Volunteer Administration. Speakers and panelists include: Texas Commissioner of Higher Education, Dr. Raymund Paredes; Dr. David Gaines, Director of Southwestern University’s PAIDEIA Program; Paul Scott, Executive Director, Equality Texas; and Orbry Holden, Director of Business and Education Outreach at the Texas Business and Education Coalition, among others.

The Service Learning and Civic Engagement Educators Retreat for Renewal offers CEU hours for Licensed Texas Social Workers, site tours of local, east-side non-profits helping to fight poverty, and an excellent networking opportunity for all individuals interested in closing the gaps in education and fighting poverty through knowledge. An opening day evening reception will be held at the George Washington Carver Museum.
